Introduction
A lot of the music we hear around us today is western. The Amsterdam Roots Festival proves that there is a lot more than that. This year the festival highlights the theme World in Europe. Increasingly more musical influences from other cultures take root in Europe. World music does not exclusively reach us from afar, but more and more from nearby. Cultural identity and nationality are no longer always connected. The existing diversity within European world musical styles is seething with new impulses all the time, which the festival will proudly demonstrate.The Amsterdam Roots Festival is also about meeting. Not only the meeting of the countless crossovers of musical styles from all over the world on the programme. Especially Roots Open Air, our free open air part of the festival, will display a fascinating cultural panorama of music and people, where the famous and the lesser-known go hand in hand.

From 12 noon till 9.30 PM you will enjoy a whole day filled with music on seven stages with both national and international bands, the latest talent from Amsterdam, DJs, dance workshops, a big world market with exotic foods and a lot more. This year the festival focuses on the theme of the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean is a crossroads of cultures and this is reflected in the music. This takes concrete shape on the two main stages where the following international bands will be playing: Natacha Atlas & The Mazeeka Ensemble, Souad Massi, Speed Caravan, Son de la Frontera and Roy Paci & Aretuska.

The festival is on walking distance (10 min) nearby trainstation Muiderpoort, metro station Weesperplein and the trams 3, 7 en 9 stop at the park. There is free car parking on Sunday but we advice you to come by public transport.
