Ancient Indian vocal traditions and electronic soundscapes come together in a profound listening experience
Pause.dxa is an experimental sound and music project by Sahitya and Harsh, both rooted in South India. Their work moves at the intersection of tradition and innovation: a search for sound that connects traditional musical styles with contemporary forms.
In their performances, they draw on traditional Indian vocal traditions, including Dhrupad, one of the oldest forms of North Indian singing, with roots in both spiritual practice and the musical traditions of Indian royal courts. In this style, breath, tone, and subtle shifts in pitch and timbre are central.
These vocal improvisations are combined with Harsh’s electronic soundscapes. He builds sounds layer by layer and shapes them into long, sustained tones and rhythmic patterns. He also incorporates field recordings—sounds from the environment, such as wind and water—captured and woven into the music.
The result is a sensory, almost meditative listening experience: a session in which sound is not only heard, but also physically felt.
