MRIYA – Ukrainian folk dance

Amsterdam Roots Festival's programme features artists who draw a lot of inspiration from their cultural background. Sometimes this inspiration leads to experimental or ultramodern artistic expressions, sometimes the artists prefer to stay close to tradition. This is the story of folk dance group MRIYA.

MRIYA, which means 'dream' in Ukrainian, will give a presentation of real old-fashioned Ukrainian folk dance at Amsterdam Roots Festival. This way of dancing is akin to storytelling, where ancient rituals and stories are handed down, generation after generation, through dance and music.
