Djembé Dramé
Djembé Dramé has been a familiar presence at Amsterdam Roots for many years. In their engaging djembe and dance workshops, they guide participants of all ages through the rich West African traditions of music and movement, with a focus on interplay, timing, and connection.
Led by Moussé Dramé, born in Senegal and a djembe player since the age of five, participants are introduced to the basics of the instrument and its accompanying movements. Since the age of fifteen, he has performed as a soloist in various percussion and dance groups across Africa and Europe. Now based in the Netherlands, he draws on his experience to help groups quickly develop a sense of ensemble and rhythm.
The workshops are open and accessible, offering space for both beginners and more experienced participants, and provide a direct introduction to the close relationship between percussion and dance within West African traditions.
