Stichting Synestheet, based in Amsterdam Zuidoost, initiates and produces distinctive art and cultural projects for both young and old. Through their work, they build bridges between diverse cultural and artistic worlds, creating space for encounter, imagination, and exchange.

Last year, many Amsterdam residents donated a wide variety of textiles to Synestheet—from cultural and handmade fabrics to carpets and picnic blankets. All these unique pieces were brought together into one impressive whole: the Synestheet Carpet, also known as The Carpet of Amsterdam. As part of the celebrations of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, this special carpet traveled to various locations across the city, including Amsterdam Roots Festival.
The carpet provides a beautiful space for meeting and shared experience, where the city’s diversity comes together as one collective story. This year, the Synestheet Carpet returns to Amsterdam Roots Festival, forming the visual heart of the Muse Area. Throughout the afternoon, visitors of all ages can enjoy a varied program—from storytelling and intimate concerts to dance and percussion workshops.

Please note: to help keep the carpet in good condition, we ask you to remove your shoes. Fortunately, this is no hardship—the soft carpet invites you to slow down, settle in, and enjoy the moment together.
