Hawah
Hawah (Hawa Touré Kuypers) was born in the Netherlands as the daughter of the legendary Malian musician Ali Farka Touré. As one of the great innovators of African music, he was known for his hypnotic guitar playing and his distinctive Mali blues — a style rooted in West African musical traditions and widely regarded as one of the foundations of American blues.
Hawah grew up between the Netherlands and Mali, where music, family, and culture were closely intertwined. Regular trips to Mali and the presence of her father’s musical world shaped a deep connection to her Malian roots. From an early age, she developed a strong love for music and dance, exploring everything from violin and guitar to rhythm and movement.
At Amsterdam Roots Festival, Hawah makes her special debut with a personal tribute to her father and his musical legacy. For this concert, she invites fellow artists who share a meaningful connection to Ali Farka Touré — creating a collective homage where tradition, memory, and new generations come together.
